I have not kept up with my regular reading updates! I am sorry. This is a recap of sorts, since my January post, where I will just highlight some thoughts, but not review each book I read.

January 2022 Reads

I had my biggest reading month in almost three years. In January of 2022 I read eight books, the first time since March of 2019. Vacation from Christmas to New Years certainly helped, as well as a number of flights. I read five nonfiction and three fiction books, and I would believe you if you said the best books I will read in 2022 are among them. Let’s hope not.
2021 Year In Review

Another year comes to a close. I had three goals this year: read 52 books, walk or run 2021 miles, and identify 221 species.

October and November 2021 Reads

I am again combining two months. I read four books in October and November, only one of which was fiction.
August and September 2021 Reads

I didn’t do this last month, so am combining August and September of 2021. I read seven books, only two of which were nonfiction.
July 2021 Reads

In July of 2021 I read three books. One of these was fiction, and two were nonfiction.
June 2021 Reads

In June of 2021, I read three books. Most months in 2021 I am falling behind pace, and on a good month I keep pace. I don’t foresee a month where I do major catchup. Alas. Two of these books were nonfiction, and one was fiction.
May 2021 Reads

In May of 2021, I read five books. Not a huge month, but the pace I need to hit my annual goal. Maybe one of these months I will do some catch-up to make up for the first few months of the year. Two of these were fiction, and three were nonfiction. It was a good month of reading: one book got four stars, and the rest got five stars. One of those I would probably demote to four stars now, but at the time I liked it.
April 2021 Reads

In April of 2021, I read just one book! And it took me less than an hour. I spent a lot of time working through A Promised Land, Obama’s most recent memoir, but didn’t finish it by the end of the month. This hurts me on my quest for 52 books this year, but who knows, maybe I will still get there.

In February of 2021 I read three books: two nonfiction and one fiction. I am behind schedule for my annual reading goal of 52 books, and I think this might be the year I do not hit it, but that is okay. Maybe I still will.

What a year. I feel incredibly fortunate that the destruction wrought by COVID didn’t touch myself or friends and family as closely as many. Living in Vermont often allowed me to forget, and just continue my life.

Here is my first annual Sam’s reading review. A huge source of what I read comes from people posting on the internet, even when they don’t know I am stealing their recommendations, so I have decided to put this up so others can take from it what they want. More importantly, let me know if you have must-reads that you discovered or rediscovered in 2018.
